Clearing the Way at “Haymarket Drive Elementary School” Site
Site work begins on the county’s 58th elementary school opening in 2014.

May 7, 2013

Looking over the mud and cleared site and through pouring rain this morning, the new elementary school located off Haymarket Drive is hard to imagine. Come September 2014, upwards of 700 students will begin or continue their World-Class education in an efficient school building full of natural light, surrounded by dense woods beyond a baseball field and play areas. Similar in architecture to Gravely Elementary School, the new school will rise on a 24.31-acre site.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 at 9:30 a.m. Because access to the site is difficult, anyone who plans to attend is asked to park at the Walmart Garden Center off John Marshall Highway at the intersection of Routes 15 and 55 in Haymarket. School buses will travel to and from the Walmart parking lot on Tuesday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. to transport visitors. Questions on the groundbreaking should be directed to the PWCS Community Relations Office, 703.791.8356.

The new school is scheduled to open in September 2014 and will eventually house 850 students drawn primarily from the Buckland Mills Elementary School attendance zone. The process of readjusting attendance boundaries will begin in fall 2013. Moseley Architects designed the school. Scheibel Construction is the contractor and the PWCS project manager is John Mills.
