"A Community of Learners"

Principal's
Message

It is an honor to serve as the Principal at Montclair Elementary School.  Our school opened in 1991 and currently has 600 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  As you walk the halls, visit classrooms, and spend time in our other rooms such as art, music, library, computer lab, gym, and the office, you will "feel" the aura of excited, motivated learners created by an outstanding staff.  It is evident by the smiling faces and "smart" talk of our students that this is an exceptional community of learners...not just for the present, but for the future.

If you are familiar with Dr. Howard Gardner's work with Multiple Intelligences and Susan Kovalik's work with integrated, brain-compatible environment, walking through Montclair you will see the best practices of research implemented by a staff of dedicated, committed professionals.  I am proud of the life-long learners here - our staff and students - and invite you to learn more about our school.  It is a warm, caring school staff that puts the interest of children at the heart of all decision making.

We embrace the philosophy that All Children Can Learn To Their Fullest Capacity and continue to research how the brain learns and how to integrate the science of learning with the art of teaching.  As educators we must never underestimate the potential of the brain, and must realize that there are many ways that the brain processes information.  We feel it is our professional responsibility to assist the students in developing all eight of their intelligences.  We must provide opportunities for children to practice and celebrate all their smarts and allow them to work through their particular strengths to bolster weaker areas.

We integrate the Prince William County curriculum and deliver this curriculum through the eight intelligences: Verbal, Logical, Spatial, Bodily, Kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal and Naturalist.  The links on our web page indicate that our students are performing well.  We are striving for continuous improvement, and maintain high expectations for students and staff. We take learning very seriously at Montclair and strive to do our Personal Best in everything we attempt.  The staff is a group of compassionate professionals, lifelong learners collaborating to give our students the Best Education”, which all children deserve.

We welcome visitors, volunteers, and business partnerships to assist us in reaching our vision.  Please take this opportunity to explore further on Montclairs Home Pages to learn more about our school.  If you have further questions, you can e-mail me at soltists@pwcs.edu, call me at (703) 730-1072, or fax me at (703) 878-0356.

Respectfully,

Tawnya Stillson Soltis
