PWCS well-represented at the VA Scholastic Rowing State Championships

The Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship is a two-day event that stretched over two Saturdays. This event draws from many schools around the Commonwealth and Washington, D.C. Prince William County Public Schools were well represented and successful at this event, and many of these teams earned the opportunity to compete at Nationals.

Day one of the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship started out with Forest Park Crew taking gold and silver medals while Woodbridge High School crew secured silver and bronze medals at day one of the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association’s State Championship Regatta on Saturday, May 6. Forest Park’s Men’s Novice 4 finished first in their Final and were named Virginia State Champions for 2017 in the Novice 4 category, earning gold medals and the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championship trophy.

Forest Park’s Men’s Junior Novice 8 finished second in their qualifying heat and advanced to the Junior 8 Final where they finished second. Woodbridge’s Women’s Novice 4 finished second, Woodbridge’s Women Junior Novice 8 finished third in their final, and Woodbridge’s Men’s Freshman 8 finished second.

Day two of the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship was held on Saturday, May 13 at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax County, Virginia, and PWCS Schools were well represented again.

Hylton High School crews brought home gold by finishing first in the Women’s Junior 2x, and three silver by finishing second in the Men’s Lightweight 1x, Men’s 1x, and Men’s 2x. With Woodbridge High School crews bringing home two more bronze by finishing third in the Women’s Lightweight 4 and the Men’s 2-8. Gar-Field High School crew earned bronze with a third place finish in the Men’s Lightweight 1x. Colgan High School crews brought home silver, finishing second the Women’s Junior 2x and the Women’s 2x.

All of these teams earned invites to the Scholastic Rowing Association’s National Championship Regatta in Camden, New Jersey on May 26 and 27, 2017.
