Eaglets in the nest

The big reveal of the new eaglet’s name was announced during a surprise assembly this morning for the kindergartners at Antietam Elementary School. Watching the live eagle cam over the last several weeks paid off for Ciara Weaver’s kindergarten class. More than 4,000 votes were placed in support of the name “Honor,” which was chosen to be the eaglet’s new name from more than 250 names submitted from around the world.

Today’s kindergarten assembly, hosted by the Earth Conservation Corps, included not only the name reveal for the eaglet, but a chance for the students to learn about other birds of prey. The students had the opportunity to see a red tail hawk (Skye) and a Eurasian Owl (Mr. Hoots), learning about the raptors and their habitats and how they are similar and different from Eagles.

Congratulations to Weaver’s kindergarten class!
