The weather last weekend dashed all hopes Colgan High School fashion design students had to exhibit their creative take on “wearable art” made from recycled materials. Because schools were closed on January 6, students could not get into Colgan High School to retrieve their art, which was slated to appear on the same day in the annual “Off the Wall” exhibit of student art at the Center for the Arts gallery in Manassas.

Now these students have a second chance, thanks to American Disposal Services/American Recycling, which will host a runway show and reception from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 19, at its American Recycling Center, 10220 Residency Road, Manassas. Three winners will be named from over ten entries.

“Some of the common material that we have used to design the fashion apparel pieces on the mannequins are trash bags, plastic grocery bags, water bottles, bottle caps, pieces of plastic, paper, paper bags, magazines, and newspaper,” said Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Alyssa Nagle.
