School Board Members Recognized
October 27, 2009

On behalf of the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA), Prince William County School Board Chairman At-Large Milton C. Johns recently presented VSBA certificates and pins to several members of the School Board and Superintendent of Schools Steven L. Walts to recognize their participation at VSBA conferences. All board members, superintendents, clerks, and deputy clerks are automatically enrolled in the Virginia School Boards Association School Board Academy and earn certification points for participation in conferences. The level of recognition is based on the point values earned for attendance at conferences.

“School Board members devote many, many hours to serving our children and accomplishing all that they need to do as policy makers and funding authority for this School Division,” said Johns. “Attendance at conferences is one way that we reenergize and stay informed of state and national governance issues in public education,” he said.

Betty D. Covington (Dumfries) earned an Award of Distinction, the highest possible award, and a distinctive pin.

Julie Lucas (Neabsco), Vice Chairman Denita Ramirez (Woodbridge), Don Richardson (Gainesville), and Dr. Walts each earned an Award of Excellence and a silver pin.

Vice Chairman Ramirez presented Chairman Johns with an Award of Achievement and a bronze pin for his participation at conferences.

Dr. Michael I. Otaigbe (Coles), who was not present, earned a Certificate of Recognition and pin.
