Mrs. Michaels is a graduate of Florida State Univ. with a Masters in Library Science from the Univ. of Michigan.

 

Library Assistant: Mrs. Banford, banforrx@pwcs.edu

Mrs. Banford holds a BA degree in early childhood and elementary education from Jacksonville College.  She is currently working on a Masters Degree in Reading Literacy.

 

Mission Statement

 

Our mission is to promote the development of students as life-long learners and library users.  The school library provides opportunities for students to access “real-world” information through both book and internet resources. The library is a shared space owned and used by every member of the school community fostering good citizens who function effectively as members of a group and of society.

 

Goals

  • To provide students, teachers, and members of the school community with up-to-date library collections which include both print and non-print materials.

  • To collaborate with teachers to provide instruction that supports the VA SOL and Information Literacy Skills.

  • To foster independence in finding materials both for educational and for personal use that contributes to the development of students as life-long learners.

 

Library Policies

  • Students are responsible for checking out library books using their library cards (elem.) or keying in their student number (M.S.)  They may not check out books for another student.

  • Students may check out 3 library books or magazines of their choice plus any assigned books.  Students may not check out reference books or newspapers.

  • Books are due back in two weeks and may be renewed for two more weeks if needed longer.

  • No overdue fines will be charged but checkouts may be suspended until overdue items are returned.  Overdue notices will be sent out weekly.

  • Replacement costs will be charged for lost or damaged books. Due by June 1st each year.

  • Holds may be placed on books that are out.  Notices will be sent out daily notifying students of holds that are ready for them. They will need to pick them up within 5 days.

  • Internet access is available in the library for educational use only.
