To Provide a Meaningful Watershed Experience for Sixth Grade Students in PWCS
The E.A.G.L.E.S. Center has a wonderful partnership the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge to provide a meaningful watershed experience for sixth grade students in Prince William County Public Schools.
The “Wonders of Watersheds” program helps educate future generations about the importance of watersheds. This experience is crucial because it meets the requirements of the Chesapeake 2000 Agreement. To meet the requirements, the students must carry out meaningful field investigations including preplanning, investigation, and analysis and communication of findings.
Through the hands-on discovery activities at the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge and the E.A.G.L.E.S. Center, the students:
- Gain a better understanding of their watershed and the part they play in it.
- Potentially develop a life long interest in protecting and restoring natural resources.
- Meet the requirements of Prince William County Curriculum and Virginia State Standards of Learning.
- Discover opportunities for individual stewardship and involvement in community-based organizations that promote conservation and restoration of natural resources.
