CURRICULUM The Social Studies Office is charged with providing leadership in creating division wide curriculum that based on the Virginia Standards of Learning and reflects the current best practices in curriculum development. The objectives outlined in the PWCS Social Studies curriculum are taught in all county schools. Teachers make significant contributions to the creation and refinement of the curriculum. |
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT All PWCS social studies teachers are highly-qualified professionals with Virginia teaching licenses and endorsements in the areas they teach. The Social Studies Supervisor works with the Office of Professional Development, Department Chairs, Lead Teachers, Principals and Assistant Principals, to provide the most current and effective professional development offerings to our teachers. INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT Our master teachers understand the importance of continuous improvement. To assist PWCS teachers with their professional growth, the Social Studies Office employees four instructional support coaches to assist teachers in over 85 schools throughout Prince William County.. These trained professional developers provide direct support to classroom teachers by offering a number of services ranging from supplemental instructional resources, model lessons, non-evaluative and confidential clinical observations, various presentations and workshops, and more.
