School Social Work services are designed to promote educationally, psychologically and socially healthy school environments to optimize student learning. The Social Workers primary functions are to provide direct intervention in the school setting and to link students and families with services outside the school. As an extension to School Social Work Services, Comprehensive Child Study provides intensive support services to families at the elementary level.

OVERVIEW OF SERVICES

  • Works collaboratively to mobilize the resources of the school and community to meet the educational needs of students and families.
  • Provides intervention, consultation, and counseling for students who are referred by school personnel, outside agencies, themselves or their parents for special problems that adversely impact educational experiences.
  • Obtains information concerning the effects of environment, cultural or economic factors that may be adversely affecting student progress.
  • Participates in Child Study and work collaborative with parents and school personnel to address concerns that adversely affect student academic performance.
  • Responsible for administration of appropriate assessments.
  • Interviews parent and develops social histories to assist in the process of eligibility determination for possible special education services.
  • Participates in the special education process to identify and provide services to students who require specialized instruction in order to assist them with their general education instruction.
  • Provide support and advocacy to parents and students, to ensure positive engagement with their community and school.
  • Provides students with individual and group counseling utilizing a strength based perspective in order to promote healthy development.
  • Works collaboratively with all professionals within the school to provide crisis intervention, violence prevention, and suicide prevention services (i.e. substance abuse, attendance, school health nurse, guidance, human relations).
