COMPREHENSIVE SUICIDE PREVENTION PROGRAM

The Office of Student Services will continue to implement the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Program which won recognition at the state level las year. The program includes one hour presentations to all new teachers by psychologists and social workers, and assisted by counselors. There is also a required 3 hour interactive training for new Student Services Staff, a parent program called "Risky Behaviors" and the continuation of the "Signs of Suicide (SOS), a student education and screening program provided at the high schools. A middle school program will be piloted this year. On August 14, 2007 Randy Knack, School Psychologist and Doreen Dauer, Supervisor of Student Assistance and Prevention Programs, shared successful implementation information with other school districts at the Virginia Department of Health Center for Injury and Violence Prevention Training in Richmond.
