The purpose of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading skills.  Student participation in the program is voluntary.  Students who choose to participate in the program are required to complete a minimum number of readings over the summer.


KINDERGARTEN

  • Students who choose to participate are required to read   5  books.
  • Participants are required to turn in documentation of their reading including title, author, and parent or guardian signature.
  • As an alternative, students may participate in the Summer Quest Reading Program (public library) and turn in documentation from that program.

Note Keeping Strategies

Optional Activity (will not be collected):
The student may illustrate a picture from each story they have read.  The parent may write what the child is trying to express with their pictures.

Explanation of Extra Credit

Students’ completed lists will be displayed and a certificate will be awarded.

Grade Five

To receive extra credit for reading, students must choose one of the two choices below:

Choice One: Students may choose to read three of the books from the book list and complete documentation of  their reading to include title, author, publication information, and plot summary.  Each documentation must include a parent or guardian signature.

Choice Two: Students may complete the Summer Quest or Teen Reading Program (Public Library).  To receive the three extra credit A's, students must turn in documentation from one of these programs to show they have fully completed the requirements.  No extra credit A's will be given for partially completed documentation.
