 Summer Reading Program

The purpose of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading skills.  Student participation in the program is voluntary.   Students who choose to participate in the program are required to complete a minimum number of readings over the summer Below are some suggested titles forsummer reading.  Student-selected books are also acceptable. Participation in Summer Quest at the local public library is also acceptable.

 Note Keeping Strategies

 Students will maintain a reading journal.  Journal should contain personal thoughts about the stories read.  Examples:  How did the story make you feel?   What did the story remind you of?  What did you learn from reading the story?  Questions you had about what you read.
 Evaluation Strategies
 Written book report with illustrations. Oral book report with poster or diorama. Accelerated Reader test when school resmes.
