ROCKLEDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Summer Reading Program

Kindergarten   Grade One   Grade Two   Grade Three  Grade Four   Grade Five

Annotated list

The purpose of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading skills.

Student participation in the program is voluntary. Students who choose to participate in the program are required to complete a minimum number of readings over the summer. Below are some suggested titles for summer reading. Student-selected books are also acceptable. Participation in Summer Quest at the local public library is also acceptable.

Directions for choosing a book: Please assist your child in the selection of reading material.  Have your child read any page in the book to you.  If he/she struggles with more than five words on one page, that book is too difficult for enjoyable reading.  If the suggested books at the grade level to which your child has been assigned are too difficult, move to the books listed for the previous grade.  If you need to drop down more than one grade level, that should be a signal to you that your child needs to read a lot over the summer.
