The purpose of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading skills.

Student participation in the Summer Reading Program is voluntary. Students who choose to participate in the program are required to complete a minimum number of readings over the Summer.


Kindergarten

  • Students are required to read __5_books.   Below is the reading list for the summer. Please have your child read or share with you at least FIVE of these books in preparation for KINDERGARTEN.  These books may be found in the Prince William County Library or may be purchased in many of the local book stores.

1. To provide incentive for students to complete Summer reading, Kindergarten students will receive an extra S+ for each book completed, for a total of five.

2. Extra credit for Kindergarten students will count 10% of a student's grade in the affected marking period.

3. Completion of the Summer reading will be recorded for students by the end of the second week of school.

Guidelines for documenting Kindergarten students' Summer reading:

1. Kindergarten students will complete a list of books read. The documentation is to include the name of the author, the title of the book, and a parent or guardian statement that the student has completed the reading.

2. For Kindergarten students who participate in Prince William County Public Library's Summer Quest Program, the Summer Quest documentation will apply.
