Each day, five or six trucks are dispatched from the warehouse to the schools for the purpose of delivering supplies and materials and to collect excess furniture, equipment, and textbooks. When time permits, the trucks are also dispatched to do special jobs such as the pick up of donated furniture and computers from area businesses and deliver them to the schools. Art shows, science fairs, athletic competitions, and other special events all receive support from this service.
The delivery /pick up service responds to about 1,200 requests per year in addition to the daily schedule. The Food Services Department also requests delivery support approximately 300 times a year. The delivery/pickup service is offered free to our customers unless overtime is involved. To take advantage of this service, submit your request via the on-line Maintenance Work Order System (my school building).
In addition to the routine delivery and pick up service, the warehouse maintains a freezer truck that is on-call to move frozen food from schools with disabled freezer units to the freezer located at the warehouse. Daily deliveries may be made to the school until the freezer is repaired. With over eighty schools, the chance of a freezer breaking is always a concern. Each year, thousands of dollars worth of food products are saved through this service. |

Four couriers are dispatched daily to deliver mail to the schools and departments. They also transport audio-visual equipment to and from the division repair facility and provide a service to deliver and pick up video tapes and film for the classrooms. The couriers travel approximately 93,000 combined miles per year within the county. The couriers also augment the warehouse by delivering small packages and, in turn, warehouse personnel often are assigned to augment the courier staff.
The couriers are also tasked to operate a central mail room located in the Warehouse Building. Approximately 480,000 pieces of mail are processed annually through the postage machine located in the facility. The mail room is the central collection point for all mail leaving or entering the Independent Hill Complex. |
