Educational programs for students enrolled at Woodbine are determined by the Child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), which determines the type of program, amount of services, related services, and instructional goals. The program models listed below are typical of those provided at Woodbine, but times and services may vary, depending on the individual needs of the students.
Preschool Resource Program
Many of our students are served by a
teacher who makes visits to the child's home, preschool, or private day
care setting. The amount of the instructional time depends on the
individual needs of the child, as identified by the child's Individualized
Education Program (IEP). Sessions may be one to one, integrated, or a
combination of both models. Playgroups may be organized by individual
teachers and held within community or school settings to
provide opportunities for peer interaction.
Teachers work with
students and families to address the goals identified on the IEP. The role
of the resource teacher is to model and teach intervention strategies for
parents and day care providers, as well as to serve as a resource for
materials and intervention activities. Related services, such as speech and
language therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, are also
provided, either at Woodbine or at the child's neighborhood school, if
identified on the IEP.
Home Classbased Program
Two-year-old classbased students attend school two or more mornings each week as determined by the IEP team. In addition, teachers make one home visit per week. Related services, if identified on the
Individualized Education Plan (IEP), are provided during class time.
This program
provides children with opportunities to improve language, cognitive,
self-help, motor and socialization skills. Some children may attend
school on additional day(s) if recommended by the IEP team.
Classbased Program
Classes are provided for children, between
the ages of three and five years, whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) calls for a 5 day-a-week program. Children
attend half-day sessions five times a week. Related services, such as
transportation, speech/ language therapy, occupational therapy (OT), and
physical therapy (PT) are provided, if identified on the IEP. Home visits
are usually scheduled twice each month. Classes meet daily from 12:00. A
reverse mainstreaming program model is currently in use. Each class may include
some “typically developing” peers.
Related Services
Any related services identified on a
child's IEP are available at Woodbine. Related services include
transportation, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech
/language therapy. Related services may be provided in the classroom or
therapy room. In special cases, related services may be
provided in the home or day care location. Special cases are identified at
the Central Office level and usually are reserved for critically ill
children. Related services in the home may be offered to children who are
unable to attend school due to unique medical needs.
