Career Clusters & Pathways

The Virginia Department of Education implemented the National Career Clusters Framework, which includes 16 career clusters (and the new energy cluster) and 79 pathways in the same field of work that require similar knowledge and skills. Career Clusters allow students to choose an area of interest tailored to their interests, which helps them navigate their way to greater success regardless of their post-secondary goals. Students can see the relevance of their learning and how it connects to their future path. Students learn about potential careers beginning in elementary and middle school to help them choose a pathway once they reach high school.
