The Italian Cultural Society sponsors a variety of awards to honor Washington, D.C., area elementary, high school, and university students who excel in the study of the Italian languages.

In 2021, one of the Italian Cultural Society of Washington DC's honorees was Katherine Deforest, an Italian III student at Woodbridge Senior High School and student of Ms. Ileana Ippolito.

To earn the award, Katherine wrote a biographical letter in Italian explaining why she chose to study Italian, and she created a three-minute video speaking in Italian. She and her parents were invited to attend a gala on October 14. At the gala, there was a theater performance by Laura Caparrottiand actor Rocco Sisto, dinner, and scholarship awards presentations. During the summer, Katherine enjoys visiting Rome and exploring the ancient monuments.
