David Eifert, Spanish Teacher at Gar-Field High School had his article entitled "From New Teacher to Teacher Leader: An Early Career Perspective on Becoming an Empowered Teacher Leader" published in the February/March 2019 national world language professional journal, The Language Educator, sponsored by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). David describes his professional journey from being a zero-experienced teacher to a teacher leader, attributing his successes to the mentoring and support he received from both central office and school leaders. He describes his personal growth from his first observation, through his sharing in PLC meetings, presenting to his Division-wide peers, having peers observe him, and to presenting at the state's world language conference. He attributes the value of having on-going reflective conversations about his teaching while reinforcing the core research-based practices of effective world language teaching as empowering. He describes his journey as a model of how teacher leaders are nurtured through the knowledge, experience, and mentoring of program, school, and peer veteran leaders.
