Anne Marie Pace is a teacher turned author. She taught middle and high school for five years, but after the birth of the first of her four children, she decided to leave teaching. The time gave her a chance to rediscover her love for books and writing. She is most known for her children’s book series Vampirina Ballerina, which was created into an animated series by Disney Junior.

During her visit to King Elementary, Pace answered student questions about her career as an author. “I love having authors visit our school because it gets the students really excited about reading,” School Librarian Pam Lansberry shared. “I had a lot of parents tell me how excited their child was to meet the author of the Vampirina Ballerina series. I'm so happy that they are talking about books with their family.”

The visit was made possible thanks to a partnership with Hooray for Books in Old Town Alexandria. “When they have an author in for the day, they often will contact a local school to share the author that day. The students can purchase books from the store that the author will autograph for the students,” Lansberry explained.

Not only did Pace read to students, but she also taught them some of Vampirina’s ballet dance moves, which students really enjoyed.
