Teachers inspireA team of students from Osbourn Park High School won an honorable mention in the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) seventh annual student video contest. The contest challenged high school students across Virginia to create a 30-second video around the theme of “Why Teachers are Important.” VSBA awarded a first, second, and third-place prize, and one honorable mention from entries across the state.

Abigail Kensky, senior, wrote, directed, filmed, and edited the video. Hope Shubert, Ashley Moynagh, and Santiel Valdes Said, seniors, and Gabriel Gonzalez, sophomore, served as actors in the winning video, entitled “When We Need Them the Most.”

The contest gives students the opportunity to create thought-provoking videos individually, in a small group, or as a class project. Videos were judged on how well they addressed the topic, the quality of the production of the video, as well as the depth of thought and creativity of the video. The contest was open to Virginia public high school students and only one entry per school division was accepted.
