American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Course

This course covers the fundamental skills required to receive the American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. You must be 15 years old by the last day of the class and pass a series of water tests before participating in this course.

Completion of this course does not guarantee employment at the PWCS Aquatics Center (all PWCSAC lifeguards are certified through Ellis & Associates; if you are interested in working at our facility, please fill out this form to let us know).

Payment Methods:

Registration and payment MUST be completed online using the links above.


  1. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
  2. Tread water for two (2) minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
  3. Complete a timed event within one (1) minutes and 40 seconds: 


  • Attend and participate in all class sessions 
  • Participate in all skill sessions/drills and demonstrate competency in all required activities and scenarios 
  • Demonstrate competency in all required final skill scenarios
  • Pass all final written exams with minimum grade of 80%

Certificate Issued:

  • American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED (valid for 2 years)
