PWCS is a Virginia Breakfast Challenge Gold WinnerNew this year to the annual Virginia Breakfast Challenge is the Gold Category, and PWCS is the only school division in the state that attained it this year. The program recognizes schools and school divisions for increased participation in their school breakfast programs. Schools and school divisions were invited to demonstrate how they go above and beyond to serve breakfast to students. Schools earned points on their Gold Category Scorecard by demonstrating improved meal quality, hosting breakfast events, and/or implementing new and interesting strategies to take their school breakfast to the next level.

Prince William County Public Schools turned in scorecards for 93 schools. Points were earned by the different programs offered at each school by providing things such as a hot breakfast item every day, a protein item with every breakfast, and smoothies made from scratch. Points were also earned for communicating with students and families about breakfast programs through social media, posters, and taste test experiences. These points added up to earn PWCS Gold Winner status for the 2018-19 school year.

Samantha Ronk from School Food and Nutrition Services explained, “We are always striving to do more for our students, like our Grab-and-Go and Second Chance Breakfast programs, so we are proud that our staff has been recognized for their hard work and excellence in school nutrition!”
