In high school creative writing courses, students study the practice of producing poems, stories, and essays. The Virginia High School League’s (VHSL) creative writing contest gives students a chance to submit their work for adjudication against their peers around the state. Woodbridge High School’s creative writing students earned three awards in this year’s VHSL Creative Writing Contest:
- In the Poetry category “Letter to Abuela” by Yareli Sosa took first place;
- In the Essay category, “Lights in the Night” by Anthony Marovelli received an honorable mention;
- Led by creative writing teacher, Cathy Hailey, Woodbridge High School’s entire group of submissions earned first place in the overall Folder category.
The VHSL rates student-produced work based on a point system of the students’ submissions. All submitted creative writing pieces are evaluated; the very best earn first through third place, or honorable mention awards.
Congratulations to these PWCS winners!
