(Mathison)- I grew up in Brighton, Michigan. And went to Michigan State University. And actually was recruited by Prince William County to teach right out of college. So moved down here, started teaching at Woodbridge Middle School, and then went to Woodbridge High School. I was a social studies teacher, and then joined the admin team, and been assistant principal there.

- I got my master's degree at George Mason, in the meantime, in education leadership. Even in the short time that I've been the principal here at Gar-Field High School, I've come to know that there's so many great programs, great opportunities for students, and real strengths to the building. So I think job one for me is increasing our public awareness and our community outreach so that the community is just as aware of those things as I am. One thing I'm looking to do is expand our social media presence. I like to use Twitter, that's an avenue where we can connect with families, but especially with students.

- As a school, we're definitely all committed to continuing academic excellence. Working for the achievement of all students. And that's gonna be our continued focus. Closing gaps and building instructional leadership capacity within our teachers, sharing effective practices. That's definitely a goal for us this year as well.
