As the outdoor pools close their gates until next summer, water activity at Prince William County Public Schools Aquatics Center is just getting ramped up.

The Aquatics Center is beginning its fourth year of operations, and thousands of students and community members are enjoying the convenience of the community pool, year-round.

“We have received a lot of positive feedback from our users on the flexibility the facility provides,” said Aquatics Manager A.J. Dunn. “From high-level competitive swimmers to those just starting out, we have space for every kind of swimmer.”

The Aquatics Center offers a competition and leisure pool, and the Center is open to the public seven days per week. The competition pool is available for lap swimming, swim practices, swim meets and diving (on two, one-meter boards).

In addition to swim lessons and lifeguard training classes for members of the public, the facility is open for private rentals. According to Dunn, the Aquatics Center is “a top spot for birthday parties.”

The Center also provides a reduced rate for PWCS swim practices. Ten PWCS high schools, and one all-county dive team, practice at the Center, and the facility hosts many meets for USA Swimming teams throughout the year.

Dunn said he is most proud of how the Aquatics Center is working to prevent drownings in Prince William County through the PWCS Water Safety School. This program provides free swimming instruction to PWCS second grade students and utilizes the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim curriculum.

“Nearly 3,850 students participated in Water Safety School during last school year. Since opening the facility, almost 10,000 students have participated in that program,” Dunn shared.

The PWCS Aquatics Center is located on the campus of Colgan High School at 13833 Dumfries Road in Manassas. The Center is currently hiring lifeguards and water safety instructors. Contact the Center at 571-374-6333 for more information, or visit the Aquatics Center website.
