Fifth-grade students at Springwoods Elementary School received a morning visit recently from the Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School leadership class, led by Kristi Beckman, English teacher and boys’ soccer coach.

After participating in the fifth-grade Encore classes, the Colgan High students went to assigned classrooms where they led discussions and activities on various topics, including the importance of being a team player, respectability, and what to expect in middle and high school.

Students, young and old, enjoyed the collaborative experience. “Our leadership kids had a blast and learned a lot,” said Beckman.

The fifth graders especially liked the high schoolers playing with them in physical education (PE). Even though the visit was short, the fifth graders learned a lot from the “funny,” “cool,” and “really kind” high schoolers. “I hope I can be like them when I get to high school,” said one fifth grader.

High schoolers sharing their knowledge and experience with younger students encourages and builds up everyone involved. This is Positively PWCS!
