Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Plan (ESSER) III

What is ESSER?

The purpose of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III Fund is to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impacts of COVID-19 on the nation's students by addressing students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs.

This grant provides schools with funding to address the impact COVID-19 has had on services to students during school building closures. It also provides funding to develop and implement plans for the return to normal school operations.

Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services

PWCS has a comprehensive plan for addressing students' academic, social-emotional and mental health needs while safely reopening and sustaining mitigation and safety measures related to COVID-19. This ESSER III funding will support human and material resources to address unfinished learning, professional learning for professional educators and instructional leaders, social-emotional supports, and mental health healing professionals and resources, resources for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH) recommended ongoing health mitigation measures, and student transportation.

PWCS is a recipient of the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief ("ARP ESSER") Fund, under section 2001 of the American Rescue Plan ("ARP") Act of 2021. PWCS previously sought community input into the development of the plan for these funds to support students and schools through a survey.
