Special Education Endorsements in Virginia

Virginia offers multiple endorsements in the area of special education:

Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-Age 5)

Without a specific endorsement or coursework related to students in special education who are birth/infants to age 5, most out-of-state licensure programs and licenses will lead to Virginia endorsement in general ,curriculum K-12.

Adapted Curriculum K-12

Allows for instruction of all students in special education in grades K-12, including those who access an adapted curriculum such as students with severe intellectual disabilities. Without a specific endorsement or coursework related to students who access an adapted curriculum, most out-of-state licensure programs and licenses will lead to Virginia endorsement in general curriculum K-12.

General Curriculum K-12

Allows for instruction of students in special education who access the general curriculum.

Visual Impairments PreK-12
