June 2022 - Summer Safety

June means the start of summer! This is a time to vacation, visit family, and have fun outdoors. During these months, it is important to still make sure you are being safe while having fun. Here are some tips to help you stay safe this summer.

Protect your skin: It is good practice to protect your skin from UV rays from the sun year-round, especially in the warmer months. Wear a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and reapply after swimming or if you have been outside for more than 2-3 hours.

Stay hydrated: the summer heat can be very taxing on the body. Be sure to drink plenty of water when in the heat to prevent heat exhaustion or dehydration-even if you don't feel thirsty. Include breaks in your outdoor activities to hydrate and replenish with a healthy snack and a glass of water.

Water Safety: Actively watch children when they are in or near water. Never leave children alone or unattended. Children should only swim when a lifeguard is on duty or an experienced swimmer is nearby.

May 2022 - Mental Health and Wellness

Your mental health and wellbeing are a major part of keeping a healthy lifestyle and is equally important as your physical wellbeing. Everyday thoughts and emotions influence your daily decisions, so it's imperative to be mindful of when you may be noticing that your mental health and wellbeing is diminishing.

We all face difficult times in our life, so it is not uncommon for your mental health to shift occasionally. It is good to develop healthy habits that help you get back on track whenever you feel a shift. Ways to be kind to yourself during these times include:

  • Practice self-care: take some time out of your schedule to do something that you love or makes you feel good. This aids in boosting your morale and allows you regroup and refresh your thoughts and feelings.
  • Move your body: getting exercise or even going for a walk is a great way to clear your mind and let off some stress.
  • Take control!: if you notice you are experiencing a change in your mental health, seek guidance. Whether you talk to a friend, family member, or mental health professional-taking the step to improve your wellbeing is always a step in the right direction.

April 2022 - Stress Management

Dealing with stress on a regular basis can very taxing to the mind, body, and spirit. It is very easy to neglect the proper care your body needs when stressful times arise. You aren't your best self when your own needs are not being met and cared for. This can interfere with your work and personal life, which is why it's critical to nurture and pour back into yourself. Take time to learn your stressors and learn strategies that will help you manage during these times.

Incorporating some of these techniques into your life can help make a difference in reducing some stress throughout your week.

Take Scheduled Breaks: Incorporating planned breaks throughout your day gives you a chance to unplug and regroup. These breaks can be intended for stretching, walking, eating, or just simply relaxing. Calming your mind and body greatly impacts the release of any stress that may be arising.

Set Boundaries: Setting boundaries can help you maintain a healthy work life balance. Many people often experience burnout when their workload becomes too much and generally do not communicate that with their employer. Try committing to a reasonable schedule and allow that to guide you throughout your day.

Get Your Rest: Getting proper sleep aids in so many benefits to your health such as boosting resiliency, having a focused mind, and providing energy for the day. Aim for the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep. This will lift some of the rest you may be experiencing.
