Visitor Information
When visiting a Prince William County Public School or facility, all visitors, including parents, community members, volunteers, and school division employees not regularly assigned to the facility, must report to the main office/entrance, provide valid government-issued identification, and state the purpose of their visit.
Identification Requirements
Acceptable forms of identification include:
- U.S. or foreign driver's license
- U.S. or foreign government identification
- Military identification
- Department of Motor Vehicles' photo identification
- Passport
- Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
- Re-entry permit
- Intensive Supervision Appearance Program (ISAP) identification
All visitors must wear their identification badge visibly. Upon completing their visit, they must return the badge and collect their photo ID before leaving. Each facility has procedures to inform visitors and staff about the badge requirement.
Law enforcement officers and other emergency service providers (e.g., firefighters, EMS), when in uniform and/or are prominently displaying their badge of authority, are not required to obtain a visitor's badge or surrender an ID, as their identity is clear. Law enforcement officers and other emergency service providers must sign in on the "Visitor Sign-In Log," except in emergency situations.
Please view Regulation 926-1, "Visitor Identification" for additional questions regarding visitor identification requirements.
Visitor Identification Systems
Prince William County Public Schools uses a Visitor Identification System to monitor visitors and identify registered sex offenders.
Adults convicted of a sexually violent crime who are on school property are in violation of the Code of Virginia § 18.2-370.5. Visitors in violation of the Code of Virginia § 18.2-370.5 will be reported to the police.
After Hours
Regulation 926-1 regarding "Visitor Identification" requires that schools collect and keep visitor IDs which are returned when the visitor leaves the building.
To ensure that visitors possess their ID before the last VIS administrator leaves, schools make every effort to return those IDs to visitors shortly before the VIS administrator who has access to IDs leaves. Visitors should continue to wear the visitor badge while still in the building.
