Registration

Registration opens March 1, 2022, and ends June 15, 2022, for all high school programs.

Registration Instructions

  1. To register a PWCS student for summer school, visit ParentVUE.
  2. In the top right corner, select Online Records.
  3. Scroll down to the online packet menu and select 2021-2022 Summer School Registration.
  4. Complete and confirm the following student information:
    1. Introduction
    2. Family
    3. Parent/Guardian
    4. Emergency
  5. From the Student screen:
    1. Exclude students who are not participating in Summer School; OR
    2. Edit to register any students who will participate in Summer School

Remember to review and press submit.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

We understand summer plans can change. We are offering the following flexible refund policy for Summer 2022.  

  • To change the program that your student is currently registered for, complete a new registration in ParentVUE. Your new registration will cancel the old registration.   
  • The last day to cancel an enrichment program registration for a refund is the Friday before the start of camp. No refunds or credits will be given for enrichment programs after that date.  
  • For cancellations between the registration date and the Friday before the start of camp, full refunds will be given.  
  • To cancel a registration, email your student’s name and the name of the summer camp to [email protected].

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must complete summer school registration in ParentVUE.

High School Summer Graduation

Students will complete the 2022 summer graduation intention during summer school registration in ParentVUE.

The graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Gar-Field High School and begin at 7:30 p.m.

Graduates participating in the ceremony must report to Gar-Field High School on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.

*Graduation practice will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 7:30 a.m. at Gar-Field High School.

SOL Remediation & Testing

Summer SOL remediation and testing will be offered at Gar-Field High School.

SOL Two-Week Remediation

General Information

Students enrolled in VA Public Schools who have passed a high school level tested course but need to achieve a passing score on the associated Virginia SOL test(s) may register to take an end-of-course SOL test. In accordance with the Virginia Standards for Accrediting Schools (Standards: 8 VAC 20-131-30.C), students in grades 9-12 may participate in a remediation program in the courses below at no charge. At the end of this course, students will retake the end-of-course SOL test.

  • World History I and World History II
  • US/VA History
  • English-Reading and Writing

SOL Testing Only

Location and Times

  • Gar-Field High School
  • All test sessions begin at 7:30 a.m.
  • Students eligible for expedited retakes (375-399) will retake on July 22, 2022.

  • Workkeys Bootcamp Writing: June 28 and 29 *must attend both days
  • Workkeys Bootcamp Reading: June 30 and July 1 *must attend both days
  • English 11 Reading: July 5

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Bootcamp

Location, Dates, and Times

  • Gar-Field High School

General Information

The CTE Bootcamp is designed for Seniors who have not met the CTE certification requirement to graduate in June. This bootcamp offers Seniors the opportunity to graduate in August and be considered an on-time graduate.

Six-Week Program

Dates And Times

  • June 27 - August 5, 2022

General Information

Current high school students may take only one course for new or repeat credit during this six-week program. Students must attend the entire course and will earn one Carnegie Credit upon successful completion of the course. With approval from the student's administrator or designee, rising ninth-grade students may take a high school class for course credit.

  • English 9, 10, 11*, and 12
  • Earth Science*, Biology*, Environmental Science, and Chemistry*
  • Algebra I*, Algebra II*, Geometry*, and Algebra Functions and Data Analysis (AFDA)
  • US & VA History*, US & VA Government, World History I*, and World History II*
  • Economics and Personal Finance
  • HPE I and HPE II
  • Driver's Education Classroom:
    • Available for Prince William County residents only
    • Program Dates: July 11 to July 20, 2022
    • Parents and students must plan on attending the informational meeting via Zoom on July 12.

*Students enrolled in this course will be offered an SOL test session at Gar-Field.

Attendance

Students may not be absent for more than three cumulative days or 15 hours of the 29-day program to receive credit for the course taken. Students missing more than the three allotted days will be withdrawn from summer school and no course credit or refund will be given.

Information regarding attendance is detailed in the high school student handbook.

High School Grading

Grades will be calculated in accordance with the guidelines outlined in Prince William County Public Schools grading regulation.

Please note: Students who withdraw between June 27, 2022, and July 8, 2022, may do so without a grade penalty. Students who withdraw will not be refunded tuition. Students who withdraw between July 11, 2022, and July 22, 2022, will receive a mark of withdrawn failing (WF) or withdrawn passing (WP). Students who withdraw after July 22, 2022, will receive a mark of Fail (F).

Transportation

Shuttle transportation service is provided from each of the county's high schools to Gar-Field High School. Please see the Summer School Transportation Information.

Tuition

  • Students who meet the qualifications for the Six-Week Program and are taking a course for repeat or recovery credit, Graduation Academy, or attending the EL Academy can attend free of charge.
  • Students taking a course for the first time to accelerate earning credit will be responsible for paying tuition. Please contact the Summer School Office for the Six-Week in-person tuition rates and visit Virtual Prince William for virtual summer school tuition rates.
    • Prince William County residents - $470 per course
    • Driver’s Education Classroom only - $150
    • Non-residents (out of county) - $705 per course

 Tuition payments will only be accepted through the Student Quick Pay System.

Current PWCS parents/guardians will need to create an account at Student Quick Pay. Students will need to be added to the parents/guardians account using the Student ID number and last name. The student's last name must be written exactly as it appears in ParentVUE.

Grad Academy

General Information

This academy is for current seniors who did not meet course requirements to graduate in June but can still graduate in August and are considered an on-time graduate of the 2021-22 school year. Students will only be allowed to take two courses whether new or repeat credit.

  • Earth Science*, Biology*, Astronomy, and Oceanography
  • Algebra I*, Geometry*, Algebra Functions and Data Analysis (AFDA)
  • US/VA History*, US/VA Government, World History I* & II*

  • Independent Living and Individual Development

High School Success Academy

General Information

The High School Student Success Academy is available to students Grades 9-11. Students may only register for one session as the same curriculum will be taught each session. Register for the session closest to your location.

This one-week skill-building program focuses on the essential skills for academic success. This includes organization, time-management, note-taking, study and test taking skills, resume writing, college essay writing, and exploring post-secondary plans. This program is taught by a professional school counselor or school social workers.

There will be no late registration for this program.

  • Session I: June 27 - July 1, 2022
  • Session II: July 11-15, 2022

Location

This program will be in-person at Gar-Field High School.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory for all five days.
