  1. To register a PWCS student for summer school, visit ParentVUE.
  2. In the top right corner, select Online Records.
  3. Scroll down to the online packet menu and select 2021-2022 Summer School Registration.
  4. Complete and confirm the following student information:
    1. Introduction
    2. Family
    3. Parent/Guardian
    4. Emergency
  5. From the Student screen:
    1. Exclude students who are not participating in Summer School; OR
    2. Edit to register any students who will participate in Summer School

Remember to review and press submit.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

We understand summer plans can change. We are offering the following flexible refund policy for Summer 2022.  

  • To change the program that your student is currently registered for, complete a new registration in ParentVUE. Your new registration will cancel the old registration.   
  • The last day to cancel an enrichment program registration for a refund is the Friday before the start of camp. No refunds or credits will be given for enrichment programs after that date.  
  • For cancellations between the registration date and the Friday before the start of camp, full refunds will be given.  
  • To cancel a registration, email your student’s name and the name of the summer camp to SummerSchool@pwcs.edu 

Math Enrichment Camps

Summer Math Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 3-4

Description: This two-week math enrichment program is designed for students who love math and enjoy challenges. It's an opportunity for students to take an active role in deepening and extending their understanding of mathematical concepts. Students will use hands-on activities, math games, and projects connected to the Virginia Mathematics Standards of Learning to explore problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and algebra. The program is led by PWCS gifted resource teachers.

Dates: July 11 – July 22, 2022

Location: in-person at Penn Elementary

Hours: 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Tuition: $150 for Prince William County residents

Tuition payments should be made through Student Quick Pay.

Rich STEM Tasks Camp

Description: Do you have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)?  Join us in person this summer for an exciting STEM Experience.

Science Enrichment Camps

Wearable Tech Camp for Girls

Current Grade Level(s): 6-7

Description: The Wearable Tech week-long camp is designed to engage all-girl groups in a fun, hands-on engineering experience. Students explore their unique strengths, interests, and values while engaging in hands-on engineering activities using LED lights and servo motors. Students get to use these newly found skills to invent creative Internet of Things inspired, automated wearable technologies. The gender gap in STEM ends here!

Science and Criminal Justice Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 7-8

Description: This one-week 1/2-day science enrichment program for middle students interested connecting science to the world of criminal justice.  The program will explore the worlds of Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Anthropology, Fingerprints and Impressions, and Blood Spatter, and include a trip to the Northern Virginia Forensic Lab.  Students will utilize laboratory investigations and "case study" learning approaches for a fun and informative look at the world of Forensic Science.

Dates: July 11 – July 15, 2022

Location: in-person at Reagan Middle School

Hours: 7:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Tech for Good Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 8-9

Description: The Tech for Good program draws inspiration from Qualcomm efforts to advance worldwide communities socially and economically. Students learn about Wireless Reach and harness the power of Bluetooth technology to invent an automated Internet of Things inspired solution to a real-world problem. Students learn that they can use technology to solve societal challenges at any age!

Dates: July 18 – July 22, 2022

Human and Comparative Anatomy Studies Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 10-12

Description: This one-week 1/2-day program is designed for high school students interested in gaining in-depth understanding and working knowledge of human body structure and function. This program is an ideal foundation for students who may be considering career opportunities in health and medical fields. Students will explore human body systems through modeling activities, investigations, and computer simulations. Participation in comparative anatomy explorations through a variety of animal dissections will enable students to make connections between human body structures and those of other animals. Students will apply dissection techniques to an in-depth fetal pig dissection using the protocol for a human autopsy.  Students will have access to the Visible Body Software which will allow students to survey human body systems on a digital platform. This course will provide an in-depth look at the biology of form and function and how vertebrate organisms evolved as compared to one another.

Dates: July 25 – July 29, 2022

Reader's Theatre Camp: Fabulously Funny Fairy Tales

Current Grade Level(s): 2-3

Description: Students will have oodles of fun building essential reading skills with rib-tickling versions of beloved fairy tales turned into read-aloud plays! Readers won’t be able to resist these hilarious twists on their favorite tales– Each play comes complete with instant discussion starters, vocabulary boosters, imaginative writing prompts, and a brief history of the fairy tale.  This camp culminates with a production of the play for live and virtual audiences.

Reader's Theatre Camp: Tall Tales

Description: The colorful voices of Paul Bunyan, Annie Christmas, Pecos Bill, Slue Foot Sue and other tall tale heroes will come alive in this Reader's Theatre Camp. Each play comes complete with background information, reading comprehension questions, writing prompts, and cross-curricular activities. This camp culminates with a production of the play for live and virtual audiences.

World Mythology Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 6-8

Description: This workshop will offer an overview of world mythology. The extension will introduce Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Celtic myths, and will offer students the opportunity to study other culture's myths as well. The workshop will focus on archetypes, creation stories, pantheons, trickster characters, and heroes.

Description: High school students will learn how to practice public relations and how to use different tools to manage a company or individual's reputation. In this course, students will develop skills in writing a press release, developing a press kit, planning, and organizing a press conference and promoting the event via social media. The course will feature actual interactions with professional journalists.

Description: Spanish Fluent Speaker high school students will learn about role models of different genre who achieved recognition as creative writers and apply their creative writing interest whether in poetry, short stories, features, and others to producing a collective PWCS Literary New Writers' Magazine.

King Arthur Bake for Good Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 6-8

Description: Students learn the math and science of making bread from scratch. With supplies from King Arthur, they bake the bread recipe at home or together in school. The recipe makes two loaves, one to keep and one to share with someone in need or as an act of kindness. Students should only sign up for one session. The same curriculum will be taught each week.

Summer Sport, Fitness, and Nutrition Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 3-4

Description: This two-week sport, fitness, and nutrition enrichment program is designed for current 3rd and 4th graders who are looking to be active and engage in a variety of movements and activities. Students will have the opportunity to exercise and work with others in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. Students will participate in a variety of sports, fitness games, and activities, and learn key nutritional concepts and information. One to two field trips to be included. The activities will include moderate to vigorous physical activity opportunities but balanced with time for low intensity, social interaction, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Sports Exposure Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 6-9

Description: This two-week camp is for students who are interested in playing and learning about the different sports we offer but are intimidated to tryout because they have not played in an organized environment, are insecure about their ability, or have never played a sport. The camp will strive to give participants an overview of how all PWCS sponsored sports are played, the general rules, and the proper use of equipment. The hope is to help fill positions on our middle school and sub-level high school teams that are experiencing low participation numbers.

Dates: June 20 – July 1, 2022 (2 weeks)

Orchestra Camp

PWCS Summer Orchestra Camp

Current Grade Level(s): 2-11

Description: This program is for students enrolled in elementary, middle, and high school orchestra programs during the 2021-22 school year and beginner students who will be in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade during the 2022-23 school year. Students will improve their technical skills and musicianship in a group ensemble setting under the direction of an experienced orchestra teacher.
