Beville Middle School display case showcasing college and career information

Beville Middle School demonstrates it's never too early to explore college and careers

Beville Middle School counselors provided college and career readiness instruction in grades 6-8. Grade level counselors delivered lessons using Naviance, a college, career, and life readiness (CCLR) framework that provides students the ability to examine and research topics related to student success. These topics include career and academic readiness, college choices, and social emotional learning. Sixth graders were given information about academic planning; seventh graders learned about career clusters and academic planning; and eighth graders explored their individual strengths as it related to academic planning and transitioning to high school.

To provide a daily reinforcement of college and career readiness for the Bobcats, counselors reached out to colleges, universities, and trade schools across the country asking for donations for their “Game of Life Post-Secondary Plans” display case. Donations included pennants, spirit wear, informational material, posters, pencils, and other assorted items to share with the students. The display case highlighted many Virginia colleges, universities, trade schools, historically black colleges both in Virginia and the United States, and all the military branches. The display case also provided a career path visual in construction. Visit the PWCS Naviance webpage to find out this digital platform can simplify the college and career planning process for students.
