Month of the Military Child

ART CONTEST

Theme: The Art of Being a Military Child

PWCS is hosting an art contest to promote encouragement and support for our military-connected students. The top award entries will be highlighted in April when schools celebrate Month of the Military Child. The theme for this year is “The Art of Being a Military Child,” and the contest is open to all students (K-12), both military-connected and not. The deadline to submit artwork is March 1, 2023. For questions, contact Dr. Deborah Ransom, DODEA Project Director–College, Career and Student Support, at [email protected]

General Entry Guidelines:

All submissions should be related to being a military-connected child.

Suggested topics or ideas to drive inspiration for the artwork include but are not limited to the following: military lifestyle, transitions/changes, pride as a military kid, pride as a military family, American pride, patriotism, or deployment.

The original artwork can be a two-dimensional drawing or painting, mixed media (i.e., includes text), photography, digital media, and digital animations. Acceptable mediums include crayons, markers, pencils, watercolor, tempera, and acrylic paints. Artwork can be mixed media (i.e., includes text), photography, digital media, and digital animations.

Artwork should be on a white, manila, or black sheet of drawing paper that is no larger than 11 x 17.

Color or black and white submissions will be accepted.

Artwork must be mounted on poster board (of any color) that is no smaller than 8 x 10 and no larger than 12”x 18”, including the poster framing.

Do not mount artwork to foam board as the thickness makes display difficult.

Artwork may NOT be matted.

Each student may submit only one entry.

Artwork will be submitted digitally with a brief artist statement that describes their artwork, why they created it, what it means to them, and what inspired them. Artist statements will be submitted with the digital form.

A committee will judge the entries and award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each grade level (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) of competition across all schools, not from each. There will be an overall winner from grades K-12.

Students should keep their original artwork in case it is needed for display purposes.

The deadline to submit artwork is MARCH 1.
Students must use their PWCS email account to access the form below and submit a digital copy of their artwork.
