Translation and Interpretation Services
PWCS provides free translation and interpretation services to multilingual families to ensure they have access to essential information about their child's education, and that they can communicate with school officials in their preferred language.
How can families get language assistance?
Interpretation
When visiting their child's school or one of our Global Welcome Centers, families can ask for an interpreter who speaks their language. You can also point to your language using the language assistance posters displayed on-site. The staff can provide interpretation by telephone, or by collaborating with a qualified bilingual interpreter in the building to families who walk in unscheduled or who call. For scheduled visits, schools can also arrange for an in-person interpreter. Schools also have headsets to provide interpretation in real time to families during schoolwide events.
Translation
The school division has a team of staff translators to provide translation of written documents and messages sent to families into nine languages:
- Arabic
- Chinese
- Dari/Farsi
- Korean
- Pashto
- Spanish
- Urdu
- Vietnamese
Parents can also request translation of documents through their schools.
Translations Online
The PWCS website also has many of its pages in the languages mentioned above. To access translations done by a team of translators in the eight top languages, select “Translations” from the menu at the top and find your language. The website also offers machine-generated translations for every webpage. Select the "Auto Translate" option to access this feature. Please keep in mind that computer-generated translations are often imperfect, but they can help to familiarize yourself with information.
