Mission

To provide safe, on time, and cost effective transportation service for students, and to provide a quality vehicle repair and maintenance program which ensures a safe, economical vehicle operation.

Demographics

The Transportation Department is organized in four service areas:

  • Administration and Planning
  • School Bus Operations
  • Safety and Training
  • Vehicle Repair and Maintenance

The department's transportation services Prince William County students, covering a 345-square-mile area that stretches from the Potomac River to Bull Run Mountains. (Support within the county does not include Manassas and Manassas Park cities.) About 61,000 of an estimated 90,500 students are transported to and from school by buses, using over 800 buses which travel 10 to 11 million miles per school year.

Eligibility for Transportation - Code of Virginia

The Code of Virginia, Section 22.1-176, permits school boards to provide transportation for eligible pupils, but does not require them to do so. Public school bus service in Prince William County is for all eligible students living more than of one mile from their assigned school. Special provisions are arranged for students with disabilities.
