School Board Meeting and Public Hearing on FY2024 Budget

The Prince William County School Board will hold a regularly scheduled School Board meeting on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Pursuant to School Board Policy 139, “School Board Member Participation in Meetings by Electronic Communication,” one or more School Board Member(s) may participate in this meeting through electronic means from his/her home due to a medical condition, to care for a family member with a medical condition, or for personal reasons that prevents his/her physical attendance. If so, the Clerk will so note in the minutes of the meeting. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Kelly Leadership Center located at 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas, Virginia. Please note that immediately following the approval of the agenda, the School Board will enter closed session until 7 p.m. at which time the public meeting will resume.

The February 15 meeting will include a Public Hearing on the Superintendent’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024, which was previously noticed in a newspaper of general circulation. The public hearing will precede the regularly scheduled School Board meeting and is open to the public. Members of the public who wish to speak at the budget hearing may do so by completing the Public Hearing Citizen Comment Time Request Form or by contacting the clerk at 703-791-8709 prior to noon on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Citizens signing up to speak during the public hearing will be confined to the topic of the proposed boundaries for “Rosemount Lewis” Elementary School.

Those citizens who wish to be placed on the list of speakers for the regular meeting may do so starting at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, by submitting the Citizen Comment Time Request Form or contacting the Clerk at 703-791-8709 prior to noon on Wednesday, February 1. Speakers will be signed up on a first-come, first-served basis, ending at noon on the day of the meeting. The sign-up list will close once the number of total speakers who have signed up reaches twenty and there will be no sign-up thereafter, nor at the meeting. The citizen comment period for regular School Board meetings is limited to one hour for comments on topics germane to the operations of PWCS. Speakers are limited to three minutes each, with an additional time allowance provided for speakers requiring translation assistance, as determined at the discretion of the Chairman At-Large. Speakers who require interpreter services must notify the Clerk of the same and provide their name and contact information at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.

All speakers must provide their address, business or organization’s mailing address, and phone number or email address in order to verify their residency in Prince William County and permit the Clerk to contact residents if necessary. Residents of the county with no fixed address may also add their name to the list of speakers and shall provide the Clerk with a means to contact them. Speakers must also identify the issue of public concern upon which they will be speaking.
