Hoops Fest 24 logo and picture of Kevin HerrmannHylton High School will be hosting the annual charity event Hoops Fest at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at Hylton High School. The event brings together the top prep boys and girls basketball players from Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park to compete in the boys and girls 3-point shootout, two-ball tournament, and slam dunk competition.

The proceeds raised from this year’s event will benefit the family of Kevin Herrmann, a former Hylton High School student-athlete. The money will go into an educational fund for Herrmann’s three young daughters.

Lt. Col. Herrmann was one of five Marines who died during a routine training exercise on December 6, 2018, when an F/A 18 Hornet fighter and a KC-130 refueling plane crashed 200 miles off the coast of Japan. Two Marines were rescued the day of the crash, but one died shortly afterward. The Marine Corps ended the search for five other Marines involved, including Herrmann, and announced on December 11, 2018 that the five Marines were declared deceased.

Herrmann spent his first three years at Hylton High School before his father, also a Marine, was transferred to North Carolina Herrmann’s senior year. While attending Hylton, Herrmann played both baseball and football.

Hoops Fest is sponsored by InsideNoVa.com, InsideNova/Prince William, and Battlefield Ford. Admission for the event is $10 at the door. Tickets can also be purchased in advance.

If you are unable to attend but would like to donate money to the Herrmann family educational fund, please send checks to the attention of Sal Colangelo, Hylton High School, 14051 Spriggs Rd, Woodbridge, VA 22193. Write Hoops Fest 24 on the memo line and make the checks out to the Herrmann Family.
