PWCS has named Nathaniel Provencio, award-winning principal with more than 18 years of educational experience, as associate superintendent for eastern elementary schools, effective July 1. Provencio will replace Denise Huebner, who was named associate superintendent for Special Education and Student Services.

Provencio has been the principal of Minnieville Elementary School since 2010. He was recently named the 2018–19 Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) National Distinguished Principal of the Year. Minnieville Elementary is also the winner of the 4th Annual DuFour Award Professional Learning Community (PLC) School of the Year. Provencio also earned the 2018–19 Prince William County Human Rights Award, and was the Washington Post/Prince William County Principal of the Year in 2017.

“I am excited about the experience Mr. Provencio brings to the role of assistant superintendent for eastern elementary schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Steve Walts. “He has successfully led a Title I school, and he has experience positively impacting student achievement through Professional Learning Communities.”

Provencio previously served as an assistant principal at Bel Air and McAuliffe Elementary Schools, and he taught third grade at Montclair Elementary School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from University of North Alabama and a master’s degree in education leadership from George Mason University.
