PWCS students approved for free or reduced-price meals prior to school closures will soon receive funds on a Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Card. Households will receive $5.70 per eligible student, per day, up to a maximum of 66 days of school closure.

  • Families currently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits who are eligible for P-EBT will have the benefits added to their EBT card in the next two weeks.
  • Families with students approved for free or reduced-price meals who do not receive SNAP will receive a P-EBT card in the mail in the next four-to-six weeks.

Households approved for free or reduced-price meals prior to school closures do not need to be current SNAP participants or complete an additional application to qualify for P-EBT benefits.

The Virginia Department of Social Services and the Virginia Department of Education are working together to operate this program for families of school-age children, who would have received free or reduced-price school meals if schools were open. Virginia is one of 20 states approved to provide this temporary food assistance during public school closures resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
