At the June 10, 2020, meeting, the School Board approved a boundary plan reassigning portions of the attendance areas associated with the following middle schools: Beville, Fred Lynn, Graham Park, Hampton, Potomac, Rippon, Saunders and Woodbridge.
These attendance area changes are made in anticipation of the opening of the "Potomac Shores" Middle School, effective for the 2021-22 school year. The opening of the new school is targeted to reduce overcrowding in the eastern areas of Prince William County.
Under the approved plan:
- Reassigned residences with students who will be in the sixth or seventh grade, during the 2021-22 school year, will be expected to attend newly assigned schools.
- Reassigned residences with students who will be in the eighth grade, during the 2021-22 school year, will be permitted to remain at their currently assigned schools as transfer students as long as they provide their own transportation.

All middle schools in PWCS with changing school attendance areas are projected to be under 100 percent capacity through the 2023-24 school year. The use of 31 portable classrooms to house students among these middle schools will be significantly reduced, as a result of the school attendance area configurations drafted by the boundary planning committee and approved by the School Board.
The School Board also unanimously approved the proposal that assigns to Chris Yung Elementary School, the streets in the Blackburn Community currently assigned to Mullen Elementary School, resulting in all of the Blackburn community being assigned to the same elementary school. Its implementation is effective immediately and applies to students in all grades.
