When faced with the sudden need to support all virtual learning this spring, schools across PWCS sprang into action to support students' virtual learning. One such example is Independence Nontraditional School.

At Independence Nontraditional School, individualized support to students and families has always been the foundation of service. Several hundred digital devices were already in the hands of students at home through the school's 1:1 technology initiative, and with the shift to home learning, the team at Independence Nontraditional School focused on ensuring that devices were provided in a safe and strategic manner to students who needed them.

With safety at the forefront, the staff created a process for laptop set-up, sanitizing, tracking, and distribution. Robin Dalusung, technology support specialist, and Peggi Knight, instructional technology coach, prepared the laptops for distribution. Jan Smith, executive secretary, tracked the laptop inventory and worked out a delivery schedule by zip code, while the administrative staff called the homes to confirm delivery.

One-hundred-sixty laptops for elementary, middle, and high school students were personally delivered from the base of Bull Run Mountain to Triangle. During the drop-off, staff checked on the family, and followed-up with them regarding any additional needs.

"I am very grateful for this service and how the staff cares about their families," shared one parent.

Another parent stated, "I would like to thank the entire staff for their tremendous effort and commitment in pursuing their dedicated work for the best for our kids. I had the privilege to witness an increased enthusiasm and positive change once my son got his laptop personally delivered from the school. I could see the hardworking young man I always want him to be, studying, spending more time than ever doing his homework."

The dedication of staff working behind the scenes is what creates World-Class experiences for students and families. Continuing to create innovative solutions to problems with a focus on safety and service is Positively PWCS!
