Virginia state law requires parents/guardians and their student drivers to attend a 90-minute traffic safety program as part of the in-classroom portion of the driver education curriculum. Currently, these meetings will be held virtually with your student's Zoom PWCS account.This program requirement must be met before a student can receive a Driver Education Certificate of Completion card (DEC-District 8 card). The session informs parents and students about state driving laws, techniques for coaching teen drivers, strategies to assist teens in managing high-risk driving environments, and provides other essential safety information.
This presentation will be offered multiple times throughout the school year with a driver education teacher. These meetings will be held virtually during first quarter and possibly remain virtual throughout the remainder of the school year. Updates and information to these meetings will be posted on the PWCS Driver Education webpage on a monthly basis.
Students and their parent/guardian should plan to attend this mandatory virtual 90-minute presentation with their school. Students will need to sign into the Zoom session through their PWCS school accounts and parents/guardians will need to join their student in the Zoom meeting. The Driver Education Program in the Office of Student Learning will continue to monitor the need for additional meetings on a monthly basis.
