Potomac Shores Middle School

At its meeting on October 21, 2020, the Prince William County School Board unanimously approved the committee recommendation to name the division's newest middle school "Potomac Shores Middle School." The new school is scheduled to open in August 2021 and is located at 17851 Woods View Drive in Dumfries. The chosen name earned overwhelming community support during an input session and survey held by the naming committee in September 2020.

Potomac District School Board member, Justin Wilk, who served on the committee and who represents the community in which the new school falls, said, "In the tallies, the vast majority of constituents recommended the name Potomac Shores. I had my own sessions with residents who are already drawn into the boundaries of Potomac Shores, this included Potomac Shores residents, Pattie residents whose children will move to Potomac Shores Middle next year, and Swans Creek on their opinions; by and large, these residents also wanted a name based off of the community or some generic feature."

Potomac Shores Middle School could eliminate up to 37 portable classrooms across the Eastern Route 1 Corridor of Prince William County. Schools impacted by the opening of the new middle school include: Beville, Graham Park, Hampton, Fred M. Lynn, Potomac, Rippon, Saunders, and Woodbridge Middle Schools. The goal is to reduce the number of portable classrooms and expand capacity at these other schools.
