In an effort to stay connected to families and create some type of normalcy, Rosa Parks Elementary School's Parent Teacher Organization hosted a drive-by Santa visit. To create a festive atmosphere, parent volunteers decorated the fence in front of Rosa Parks Elementary with lights and displays. From the safety of their cars, students and families drove through the school's parking lot, waving to Santa, who was sitting in a chair on the sidewalk. The students received a pre-packaged candy cane and dropped off letters to Santa in a wrapped box on the sidewalk.
Families also brought canned goods for Action in Community Through Service (ACTS), a local shelter. Over 450 pounds of food were collected at the event.
Principal Sue Danielson said, "We added a food drive to continue with the philosophy of an International Baccalaureate World School in which changing the world and making a difference in the lives of people is part of our teaching with our school. Always asking ourselves, what can we do to make a difference in the world however small the act. "
