PWCS SAT scores

The College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score reports recently released indicate that Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) students continue to excel. The PWCS overall mean score is 1097, which is 37 points higher than the overall global score, or performance worldwide. In addition, the percentage of PWCS students meeting all of the college readiness benchmarks established by the College Board exceeds performance globally.

PWCS Highlights:

  • 2,756 PWCS 2021 graduating seniors took the SAT (down from 3,618 in 2020)
  • 52% met or exceeded college-readiness benchmarks in both reading/writing and mathematics
    • 70% of Asian students, 65% of White students, 35% of Black students, and 41% of Hispanic students
  • 81% met or exceeded college-readiness benchmarks in reading/writing.
    • 86% of Asian students, 91% of White students, 71% of Black students, 76% of Hispanic students
  • 64% met or exceeded college-readiness benchmarks in mathematics.
    • 73% of Asian students, 66% of White students, 35% of Black students, 43% of Hispanic students

SAT participation was lower than in previous years, due to the pandemic and resulting testing cancellations and concerns with in-person testing. The College Board reported a 31.4% drop in SAT participation globally, with a 33.4% drop in Virginia. PWCS experienced a 23.8% drop in participation.
