PWCS believes that students learn best in person; this is critical for both academic and social development. The global COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated that for a limited number of students, a full-time virtual school can be a positive option and further enable parent choice. PWCS will continue to support parent interest in this option for the 2022-23 school year.
Prince William County Public Schools will offer a limited number of seats for a full-time virtual learning opportunity for K-8 students. All students in grades K-8 who wish to participate in the full-time PWCS Virtual Academy for the 2022-23 school year will be required to complete an online application by May 10 to be considered for the lottery for spaces in the program.
Enrollment in the full-time virtual program requires a year-long commitment for the entire 2022-23 school year. Students enrolled in virtual learning during the 2021-22 school year must also apply to be considered for the 2022-23 school year.
This online application is for those students and their families who wish to participate in a full-time virtual learning program in grades K-8 only, and it must be completed by May 10.
The program will serve three student groups:
- Students with a health condition that is associated with a weakened immune system.
- Siblings of current PWCS students with a health condition that is associated with a weakened immune system and who are applying to PWCS Virtual Academy.
- Any K-8 student who meets the admissions criteria (including grade and attendance requirements) and is selected by lottery.
Visit the Virtual Academy webpage for more information and to complete the application by May 10.
Priority placement will be given to those students who have specific health conditions which compromise their immune systems and their siblings. All remaining seats will be filled by lottery from those who complete this online application and meet the qualifications.
Rising ninth through 12th-grade students should not complete this application. Students in grades 9-12 who wish to participate in a full-time virtual learning option provided by Virtual Virginia should meet with their high school counselor to discuss their learning plan.
