Between September 28 and October 9, the 2023-24 student instructional calendar survey will be available for comment. The instructional calendar consists of in-school days for students. Shortly after, the results will be presented to the School Board, who will make the final decision in November.
The instructional calendar maintains the same first day of school in all three options. All three options maintain many of the facets of the current 2022-23 instructional calendar.
Option 1 and Option 2 have a two-week winter break with a later June release. Option 3 has a shorter winter break, resulting in students finishing the instructional school year earlier in June.
Throughout September, the Calendar Committee met to discuss, revise, and develop options for the PWCS instructional calendar for 2023-24. The annual PWCS instructional calendar is 180 days long. School divisions can begin as early as two weeks before Labor Day and must have a four-day Labor Day weekend for students. The starting point for the 2023-24 calendar begins before Labor Day, incorporating the four-day weekend.
To be more culturally inclusive, PWCS added four new holidays within the 2021-22 school calendar. These holidays were maintained in the 2022-23 calendar and PWCS plans to preserve them in the 2023-24 calendar if they impact an instructional day.
